Alternatives To Breastfeeding
No one should go for infant formula because breast milk is the only food designed by The Only Creator exclusively for babies, so when it comes to infant nutrition, breast milk is the best option. You have to give breast milk exclusively for six months and then you may add some other soft foods with breast milk for your baby until the end of the first year. Not infant formula but only breast milk can give good and healthy future to your baby. But the expectations do not fall always into perfect, there are some circumstances in which breast feeding is not feasible for mothers. There are some infant formulas that are regulated by Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Three main types of such formulas are available. Let we discuss one by one.
COW-MILK BASED INFANT FORMULA
When you choose not to go for breastfeeding or not feasible for you to give your baby breast milk then you may go for cow-milk based formula. This should always be the first formula you give to your baby. Many people may suggest something else but this is the very first and only formula for your baby. Most infant formulas are composed of cow’s milk that has been changed to resemble breast milk. Such alteration gives the formula a right balance of nutrition and makes the formula easier to digest. Most babies do well on cow-milk based formula but some do not show good results and need another form of infant formula.
SOY-BASED INFANT FORMULA
You can choose soy-based formula for your child when you want to exclude animal protein from your baby’s diet. The soy-based formula can be better for your baby when he or she is allergic to cow’s milk formula or your baby is intolerant to lactose or carbohydrates found in cow’s milk. But be careful sometimes if a baby is allergic to cow’s milk might also be allergic to soy milk.
CASEIN-BASED INFANT FORMULA
Casein-based infant formula is considered as better than the whey-based formula. It is thought that casein-based formula will take your child longer to digest. It is recommended for young babies and there is very little difference between casein-based infant formula and cow’s milk-based formula. Casein-based infant formula is normally suggested for hungrier babies.
PROTEIN HYDROLYSATE FORMULA
Such types of formula in which protein is broken down—hydrolyzed partially or extensively into smaller sizes than are those in cow’s milk as well as soy-based formula. Protein hydrolysate formula is for those babies who do not tolerate cow’s milk or soy-based formula. Such formula is for the infant who has an allergy for protein.Besides to aforementioned formulas, there are some other formulas for babies who has some medical conditions.
It is the least expensive formula for babies. It must be mixed with water.
CONCENTRATED LIQUID FORMULA
This formula also must be mixed with water.
It is the most convenient form of the formula for babies. It does not need to be mixed with water.
